Our Story

Growing up in this magnificently crafted home, the owners, Johannes and Antonette, have an all-enveloping love for, and pride in this abode. Being a young boy, watching his father meticulously choose every piece of dolomite to flawlessly fit into the next, like a live puzzle taking shape under his inquisitive gaze.

This proud family can not wait to receive you in this hand-crafted monument to love for the land and true authenticity. To share the stories of their heritage, and serve great food.

Also very aware of their carbon footprint, everything is responsibly sourced in from smaller personal businesses and hand-picked farms who share their sense of social responsibility. The Monthly longtable event is also a testament to the love of entertainment that is ever-present in the halls.

Johannes Basson Antonette Basson Bastion House Team As a family we always made sure that we spent time together around the dinner-table, sharing details of our day. This painting was done by a family friend, Cornelia Holm, depicting this happy tradition Billy and Frieda on their wedding day Frieda Gertruida Elizabeth Bender, a farmgirl from the Eastern Freestate William Daniel Basson, as a young boy, growing up in Randfontein A picture of Frieda in front of the farmhouse at her older sister's wedding Billy Basson – Graduating with a doctors degree in Agriculture Billy and Frieda on the beach in Margate with her mother, sister and Hanzi (the oldest daughter) Frieda Basson – Graduating with a degree in Social Work Photos that showcase the house under construction. All the stone used for building the house was collected in the area.
